6. What do you mean by 'Author Bio'?
1. If I submit a story/poem that I've written, what will happen to the copyright?
You will of course keep the copyright of your own work, whether it is shortlisted for inclusion in one of our publications or not. We will never ask you to surrender, or 'assign,' the copyright of your work to us. If your work is shortlisted, then we will draft a basic contract for both you and a representative of Lion Lounge Press to sign, in the interest of both parties. This is in part to underline that you will retain the copyright of your work, and that you will be fully credited for it in the respective publication.
2. Does submission of a text guarantee its inclusion in one of your publications?
No. If that were the case, our publications would consume far too much paper and valuable copy-editing time... As you may have guessed by now, however, inclusion is quite impossible without submission, so take a gamble and send us your work!
3. Will I get paid if my story/poem is selected?
If you're thinking in terms of money, then no... We recognise, however, that publication can be a far more valuable form of remuneration - particularly for previously unpublished writers.
In addition, all shortlisted writers will receive a free copy of the respective publication.
4. Why should I send my work to you?
This is a great opportunity to be published in an international forum and context. Besides, with your work in print, you'll have something to show off to your friends and family, not to mention to add to your CV and artist's portfolio.
Approaching a publisher with a written work can be a long and arduous process, and your work may not receive the attention it deserves simply because you haven't been published before. The editors of Lion Lounge Press, all with ties both to publishing and writing, realise that this unnecessarily closes doors for many talented authors, and have thus created this literary venue, so that all submitted work be judged not by the credentials of their authors, but by the merit of their own artistic value and craftmanship.
If you're an already published author, then you may feel that other opportunities are open to you, but why neglect this chance to have your work printed alongside the creative efforts of so many of your peers?
5. When will I find out if my submissions have been shortlisted?
The shortlisting process will be done, and all submitting writers notified, approximately two weeks after the submission deadline. You will receive a reply regardless of our editorial verdict.
6. My work was shortlisted and will thus be included in one of your publications, and I've been asked to write a short 'Author Bio.' What should it look like?
Short 'bios' of all contributing authors will appear at the end of the book. These should be 15-25 words long each and could essentially contain whatever you want. Here are two examples:
1. Randy Rechteck:
Randy lives in Berlin and studies molecular biology. He enjoys sandwiches, and is currently working on the great German novel.
2. Sarah Aubergine
Sarah was born in Azerbaijan and now resides in Paris. She has been published in numerous journals, and scours the Earth for inspiration for her prose.
